His professional career began in 1975 as a social worker at the Floridsdorf district youth welfare office , where he worked for 15 years. From 1985 he took on teaching positions, first at the Academy for Social Work of the City of Vienna, from 1986 at the Federal Academy for Social Work St. Pölten, there from 1990 to 2000 with full teaching duties and from 1995 as a professor with a focus on methodology of individual and family work and practice supervision . From 1989 he participated in the conception and management of the extra-occupational diploma courses “Community-oriented social management and social marketing” as well as other courses in social work science and social management. From 2000 to 2004, together with Kurt Fellöcker, he led the master's degree in “Social Work and Social Management” at Danube University Krems .

From 1998 he was in the core of the development team for a university of applied sciences course (at that time conceived as a diploma course) for social work. He has been a lecturer since the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences was founded in 2001 and has been a professor for the main subjects of methodology, social diagnostics and social work theory in the social work course (today: Department of Social Affairs) at the St. Pölten University of Applied Sciences, the university's "successor organization" to the Social Academy. From 2009 to 2017 he headed the Master’s degree in Social Work and the Social Department. Convinced that social pedagogy requires independent academic training, he initiated corresponding academic further training courses at "his" department.

From January 1, 2018, he will take over the role of founding rector of Bertha von Suttner Private University in St. Pölten.

Content focus

The research, training and publication activities of Peter Pantucek-Eisenbacher deal with the theory and methodology of social work with a focus on social work theory, social diagnostics and case management .

For Peter Pantuček-Eisenbacher, creating a fit between individual problem situations and social problem processing programs is a central task of social work . According to his analysis, this also means that reasons for making decisions for interventions without systematic consideration of the possible or probable effects and side effects of interventions and assistance are not possible and are therefore always a complex new challenge. Social diagnostics can be seen as a core area of Peter Pantuček-Eisenbacher. He doesn't see them as the opening credits, but as part of the help process. In his dissertation on social diagnostics , which was first published as a book in 2005 and in its third edition in 2012, he presents various instruments that are constantly being further developed on the basis of practical experience. The inclusion chart , the easyNWK social network map and the easyBIOGRAPH biographical time bar are particularly relevant in his work . These social diagnostic instruments are cooperative procedures and are therefore particularly well suited to be incorporated into support processes and to support the dialogue between clients and social workers.

Peter Pantuček-Eisenbacher played a key role in the founding and conception of the social capital e-journal in 2006 and was also one of its first publishers and editors. As an e-journal, the social_kapital is a publication forum for Austrian authors who carry out studies in the thematic area of social work (social work, social management , social education ). It also serves to develop a scientific community around the discipline of social work and promotes the publication activities of teachers of the FH degree programs in social work in Austria.

Peter Pantuček-Eisenbacher is the founding chairman and president of the Austrian Society for Social Work (ogsa), a body promoting the discipline and profession of social work.
