Peter Stephan (born March 23, 1951 in Mörlenbach ) is a Hessian politician ( CDU ). From January 27, 2008 to May 18, 2017, he was a direct candidate for constituency 55 (Bergstrasse-Ost) in the Hessian state parliament .

Life and work

After graduating from the Albertus Magnus School in Viernheim in 1970 , Stephan served in the Air Force until 1972 . After two years of active service, he left the Bundeswehr with the rank of lieutenant . He then studied business administration at the University of Mannheim from 1972 to 1977 . From 1977 to 2008 Stephan worked at Roche Diagnostics GmbH in Mannheim . During this time he held various management functions in the operational and strategic area with a focus on logistics . Most recently, Peter Stephan was responsible for global export control management.
Since 1991 Peter Stephan has been involved in the Bundesvereinigung Logistik eV on a voluntary basis. Until 2006 he was the spokesman for the Rhine-Neckar regional group. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the German Logistics Academy and a speaker on logistics.

Peter Stephan is married and has three grown children. He has lived in Mörlenbach since he was born .

Political party

Stephan began his political commitment in 1967 when he joined the Junge Union . In 1973 he became a member of the CDU. Since 1985 he has been a member of the CDU's SME Association; member of the economic advisory board since 2010.

In his home town of Mörlenbach, Peter Stephan has held various political offices in the party and in local political bodies since joining the CDU. Since 1985 he has been a member of the Mörlenbach municipal council. During this time he was chairman of the sports, cultural and social committee from 1987 to 1997 and chairman of the main and finance committee from 1996 to 1997. From 1997 to 1998 and from 1999 to 2001 he was parliamentary group chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in the Mörlenbach municipal council, from 2001 to 2011 he was chairman of the municipal council. Since March 2008 he has been deputy district chairman of the CDU Bergstrasse and has been a member of the state board of the CDU Hessen since 2012 .

At the district level, Peter Stephan has been a member of the Bergstrasse district council since 2004 . From 2009 to 2015 he was deputy chairman of the CDU district parliamentary group. At the state level, he was a substitute candidate for the CDU in the Bergstrasse-Ost constituency in the state elections in 1999 and 2003 . In both elections, Ilona Dörr , member of the state parliament, was a candidate for the CDU.

On March 14, 2007, Peter Stephan was elected as a candidate of the CDU for the constituency of Bergstrasse-Ost by the district delegates' assembly of the CDU in the Bergstrasse district. In the state elections on January 27, 2008, he won constituency 55 for the CDU and defended it in 2009 . Stephan won the direct mandate again in the state elections in Hesse in 2013 with 45.7% of the constituency votes .

In the Hessian state parliament, Peter Stephan was initially a member of the Committee on Economics and Transport and the Petitions Committee from 2008 to 2009. He was also a member of the Budget Committee from 2008 to 2012. Peter Stephan has been a member of the Committee for Environment, Energy, Agriculture and Consumer Protection since 2008. In 2009 he was elected environmental and energy policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group. Since the beginning of 2013, Peter Stephan was again a member of the Committee for Economics and Transport.

In mid-May 2017, Stephan resigned from the Hessian state parliament for reasons of age. Birgit Heitland took up his position as a substitute candidate .
