Peter Strang (born July 7, 1936 in Dresden ) is a German sculptor. As a modeller, he had a major impact on the artistic program of the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory from the late 1960s .

Life

Between 1950 and 1954, Strang completed an apprenticeship as a bossier at the State Porcelain Manufactory in Meißen . After graduation, he initially worked in the manufacture. At the invitation of Walter Arnold , he began studying art at the Dresden University of Fine Arts in 1955, specializing in the modeling of sculptures , which he completed with a diploma.

After a study trip to Albania, he returned to the Meißen porcelain factory in 1960 and was initially a freelancer there, then from 1968 as a permanent sculptor in the development department. From 1993 until his retirement he served as artistic director and chief sculptor of the manufactory.

In 1960, Strang, the painter Heinz Werner , and Ludwig Zepner founded the “collective artistic development” to which Rudi Stolle (1919–1996) and the flower and fruit painter Volkmar Bretschneider also belonged.
