Peter Udsching

Peter Udsching (born March 26, 1948 near Düsseldorf ) is a German lawyer and former presiding judge at the Federal Social Court .

Life

Between 1968 and 1972 Udsching studied law at the Ruhr University in Bochum . In 1973 he passed the first state examination in law and in 1976 the second state examination in law. After completing his legal training, he worked for three years as a research assistant at the law faculty of the Georg-August University in Göttingen . He received his doctorate with a dissertation on the subject of " Care and maintenance after divorce ".

In 1979 he began his judicial career in the social justice system of Lower Saxony at the social court in Hanover . Peter Udsching was seconded to the Federal Social Court as a research assistant from 1981 to 1983 and a judge at the Lower Saxony Regional Social Court in 1985 .

At the beginning of 1992 Udsching was appointed judge at the Federal Social Court. He was initially a member of the 14th Senate, which was responsible for statutory health insurance and childcare allowance . In 1994 he moved to the 3rd Senate responsible for health insurance and long-term care insurance . On October 1st, 2003 he became chairman of the 7th Senate responsible for employment promotion law. After the renewed establishment of a 14th Senate in July 2007, Udsching became chairman of this Senate, which is concerned with basic security for jobseekers . From 1994 to 1998 he was chairman of the judges' council and from 1995 to 2000 he was chairman of the Association of Federal Judges. He retired in May 2013.

In addition to his judicial work, he was a member of the board from 1995 to 2011 and chairman of the German Social Rights Association from January 1998 to the end of 2009 . In September 2004 Udsching was elected to the permanent deputation of the German Juristentag and was chairman of the labor and social law department at the 67th German Juristentag . At the 68th Juristentag he was deputy chairman and at the 69th Juristentag 2012 he was chairman of the German Juristentag. He was from November 2006 to May 2009 Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council on the reform of long-term care in the Federal Ministry of Health and is from March 2012, a member of the advisory committee of experts to implement the long-term care in the Federal Ministry of Health.

In 1997 he received a teaching position at the University of Osnabrück on social law and was appointed honorary professor there in 2001 . He is the volume editor and co-author of the Hauck / Noftz, SGB IV, and co-editor of the Beck online commentary on all labor and social law. He is co-editor of the SGB XI commentary on long-term care insurance, the manual of social court proceedings and the yearbook of social law as well as the journal Die Sozialgerichtsbarkeit . In addition, he publishes articles in specialist journals and compilations on topics of social law.
