Peter Vitouch
Peter Vitouch (* 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian communication scientist .
Life
After graduating from high school, Vitouch studied psychology at the University of Vienna , which he completed with a doctorate in 1973 . As a university assistant, he also carried out advisory activities in the field of media psychology and thus came into contact with the media industry. In 1986 he completed his habilitation in psychology and one year later he was appointed professor at the Institute for Journalism and Communication Studies. From 1991 until its closure in 2005 he was also head of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Empirical Media Research. From 1997 to 2003 Vitouch was Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the University of Vienna, and from 2004 to 2010 Vice Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences. He retired in 2012.
From 1995 to 2003 Vitouch was a weekly columnist for the Kurier , from 2004 to 2006 for the press . From 2010 to 2014 he was a delegated member of the ORF Public Council by the Federal Chancellery .
He is married to the SPÖ parliamentarian Elisabeth Vitouch and has two sons. One of his sons is the psychologist and cognitive scientist Oliver Vitouch .

- 2008: Gold Medal for Services to the State of Vienna
- 2011: Cross of Honor for Science and Art, 1st class
