Peter Würtz (born September 6, 1939 in Berlin ) is a German officer and politician ( SPD ). He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1990 and of the European Parliament from 1977 to 1979 .

Life and work

Würtz was born the son of a police chief. After graduating from a Berlin school, he completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter from 1956 to 1959.

In 1959 he joined the Bundeswehr as an officer candidate in the air force . In 1961 he was promoted to lieutenant . In 1965 he was adjutant to the commander in military area II (Lower Saxony and Bremen). After that he was used as a press officer and squadron chief. He attended a preparatory course for studying at the German University of Politics . As a captain , he retired from active service. In 1971 he was promoted to major in the reserve and in 1974 to lieutenant colonel in the reserve.

Afterwards he was a member of the board of directors at Atlas Elektronik GmbH in Bremen . He also joined the IG Bau-Steine-Erden and the German Armed Forces Association . He later became Vice President of the German Atlantic Society and chairman of the Sankt Barbara Germany Foundation .

He, a Protestant, is married and has three children. His adopted home is in Hemsloh in Lower Saxony .

Political party

Würtz has been a member of the SPD since 1957. With Karl Haehser he invented the fictional politician Jakob Maria Mierscheid .

MP

Würtz was a member of the German Bundestag from 1969 to 1990. In parliament he represented the constituency of Hoya from 1972 to 1976 and the constituency of Diepholz from 1980 to 1983 . In the remaining electoral terms he was drafted into the Bundestag via the Lower Saxony state list. He was a full member of the Defense Committee , the Budget Committee , the Education and Science Committee, and the Finance Committee .

He was also a member of the European Parliament from 1977 to 1979 .
