Peter Weber (born November 16, 1951 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer ( baritone ).

Life

Peter Weber studied mechanical engineering at the technical university in Vienna, although he showed no interest in this subject. But since his father owned a technical company, he persuaded him to study technology. For a short time he was a teacher at the HTL Vienna V., where he taught engineering and manufacturing. Even then he made no secret of his passion for singing and gave his students a taste of his singing skills. He later studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . He was the winner of various song competitions. He had his first engagements from 1978 at the opera studio of the Vienna State Opera , then from 1980 at the Nuremberg Opera House and from 1982 at the Hanover State Opera . There he was awarded the title of chamber singer . In 1993 he returned to Vienna to the State and Volksoper . He was appointed Austrian Chamber Singer. At the State Opera in 1995 he had an internationally acclaimed success in the title role of the world premiere of Schnittke's “Gesualdo”.

He has made guest appearances at leading German opera houses, including at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, and Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires Aires, Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, Zurich Opera House , Dallas Opera and the New National Theater Tokyo. Guest performances with the Vienna State Opera have taken him to Beijing, Yokohama, Amsterdam, Paris, Athens, Valencia, Bucharest and Belgrade.

He has participated in festivals, including the Glyndebourne Festival Opera , the Vienna Festival , the Salzburg Mozart Weeks, the Salzburg and Easter Festival , the Lucerne Festival , the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival , the Athens Festival and the Carpi Festival.

His repertoire includes roles in German, French and Italian opera as well as operetta. The focus is on roles in the Strauss and Wagner subjects. In September 2005 he made his successful debut as Hans Sachs in Wagner's Meistersingern von Nürnberg in Tokyo.
