Peter Wenzel (politician)

Peter Wenzel (born October 30, 1963 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( CDU ) and was from May 2010 to March 2011 State Councilor at the Ministry of Economics and Labor in Hamburg.

Life and work

Wenzel attended the Willhöden grammar school in Hamburg-Blankenese , where he graduated from high school in 1983. He then learned the profession of banker at what was then Vereins- und Westbank AG . He held various positions for the bank until 1993, including in Luxembourg. In 1994 he moved to Beiersdorf AG , where he became Head of Risk and Cash Management. Until 2010 he was a member of the supervisory board of the housing cooperative Bauverein der Elbgemeinden ; Hamburg's First Mayor Ole von Beust then appointed him to the State Council of the Authority for Economics and Labor, today the Authority for Economics, Transport and Innovation . After the SPD's victory in the state elections in February 2011, he left the authority in March. Wenzel is an IHK banking specialist and has a Certified Corporate Treasurer degree, which he acquired at the Frankfurt School of Finance in cooperation with the Association of German Treasurers . He is married and has three children. Since 2007 he has been a volunteer member of the board of the non-profit Senator Kirch Foundation.

In 1997 Wenzel was elected to the Altona district assembly for the first time . Since 2003 he was deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group there. During his time as a district politician, Wenzel dealt with numerous economic policy issues. He drove the renovation of the Flottbeker market and campaigned for the renovation of Teufelsbrück . Wenceslaus resigned his mandate in the district when he was appointed to the State Council.

Wenzel's tenure as a State Councilor was strongly influenced by his commitment to deepening the Elbe . He brought the new Maritime Cluster Northern Germany with him. In his function, he was also involved in ensuring that Hamburg's aviation cluster, as one of the federal government's selected top clusters, will continue to receive funding in a second phase. Hamburg was granted almost 10 million euros in funding to expand its strategy of “new flying”. Wenzel is considered to be an "advocate of a socially responsible economic policy in the sense of Ludwig Erhard ".
