Peter Woelck

Peter Woelck (born April 12, 1948 in Berlin ; † March 1, 2010 there ) was a German photographer and chronicler of the turning point and peaceful revolution in the GDR .

Life

Woelck was born in Wilhelmshagen and grew up with his grandparents in the Köpenick district . In 1968 Woelck was invited to the Young Masters Club by the photographers Arno Fischer and Sibylle Bergemann .

Woelck studied photography from 1972 to 1977 with Heinz Föppel at the University of Graphic and Book Art in Leipzig with a diploma. He then worked as a freelancer for cultural offices, magazines, publishers and various large companies.

In 1981 he returned to East Berlin , where he became a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists . From 1982 to the end, Woelck lived in a studio at Kastanienallee at the corner of Schwedter Strasse in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg .
