Peter Ziegler (journalist)

Peter Ziegler (born October 11, 1945 in St. Gallen ) is a Swiss journalist , political and media scientist .

Life

Peter Ziegler studied political science at the University of Exeter in England ( BA Honors 1973), journalism at Columbia University in New York ( MSc 1974) and international relations at the University of Geneva (Dr. ès sc. Pol. 1983). He worked in Geneva as a press attaché to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) , and later held teaching positions at the University of Utah in the USA (visiting professor 1985) and at the University of Bern (1988). He began his journalistic career in 1967 as a newswriter / reporter at the Tagesschau des Schweizer TV , from 1978 to 1988 he headed the foreign editorial department of the Basler Zeitung , from 1989 to 1995 he was editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper Der Bund . In 1996 he became director and member of the management of what was then the Berner Tagblatt media group (now part of Tamedia ). From 2001 to 2002 he was Executive Director of the Swiss Foundation for World Affairs, based at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies in Washington, DC
