Peter von Gerschau ( Russian : Барон Петер фон Гершау, born October 24, 1779 in Behnen Castle, Duchy of Courland and Semgallia , † May 4, 1852 in Copenhagen ) was a Kurland baron and Russian consul general in Copenhagen.

history

At the age of 13, Peter v. G. pupil of the training institute for young infantry and cavalry officers in Berlin and then entered the service of the Prussian army , there initially served with the Prussian body hussars . In 1807 he returned to Courland , in 1809 he went to St. Petersburg and was employed as a college assessor and chief forest master . He held the position of head forester and forest inspector in what was then the Grand Duchy of Finland . In 1814 he became the Kollegienrat appointed and held from 1816 the position of a Russian Consul General in Copenhagen.

Peter v. G. comes from the noble family of Gerschau in the Duchy of Courland and Semgallia. He was the illegitimate son of Duke Peter von Biron (1724–1800) and his lover Agnes von Derschau (1740–1783). Peter v. G. married Karoline Henriette Schmidt (1784–1848), their descendants were:
