Location and course

The Petersbach rises in a basin between the Taxerkogel and the Graukogel in the north, Grauer Schimme and Großem Muntanitz in the east and Wellachköpf and Nussingkogel in the south. The main spring area lies in the area of the Steiner Alm and drains the Muntanitzkees through several spring streams in addition to the slopes of the surrounding mountains. Another source stream, the Nussingbach, lies somewhat separated below the Wellachköpf and the Nussingscharte, whereby this sourcebach drains the glacier remnants north of the Wellachköpf and runs parallel to the Dr.-Karl-Jirsch-Weg. Below the Kessleralm, the Nussingbach flows into the Petersbach on the left and the Petersbach then plunges through a forest gorge into the Tauern Valley , where it flows south of Raneburg on the left into the Tauernbach.
