The parish church of St. Peter and Paul

Peterskirchen is a part of the municipality of Dietersburg in the Lower Bavarian district of Rottal-Inn .

location

Peterskirchen is located on the Peterskirchner Bach in the Isar-Inn-Hügelland on the state road 2109 about five kilometers northeast of Dietersburg.

history

Peterskirchen was originally the seat of the nobles von Peterskirchen. Willihalmus de Petreschirchen is mentioned around 1140 as a seal witness. Later the nobles von Grub were the lords of Peterskirchen: Konrad Gruber (1260), Erasmus Gruber (1400), Hermann Gruber (1491) and Wolfgang Gruber. The latter received in 1520 from Count Ulrich von Ortenburg the enfeoffment over some uses of Schnecking.

The last Gruber died in 1549. A painting of the coat of arms of the nobles von Grub and a grave slab are in the parish church of Peterskirchen.

In 1565 the property of Peterskirchen was bought by the Pienzenauer , who had owned the neighboring Baumgarten since 1456. Friedrich Christoph von Pienzenau's marble memorial plaque is in the parish church of Peterskirchen. The knight's armor, which stood in the parish church until 1904 and has since been in the Bavarian National Museum in Munich, was probably also made by him.

In 1628, after the death of Friedrich Christoph von Pienzenau, Peterskirchen was inherited by von Perlaching. By marriage before 1640, Hans Georg von Elsenberg became the owner of the seat and the associated lower jurisdiction . Presumably in 1673, Hans Georg von Elsenberg-Hienheim sold Peterskirchen as the pertinence of Hofmark Baumgarten to the Counts of Rheinstein - Tattenbach .

With the Hofmark Baumgarten presumably in 1821 the Peterskirchen seat changed to the Counts Arco-Valley . In 1824, the Counts of Arco sold the rather dilapidated castle in need of repair for 200 guilders to Lorenz Glas. For the considerable period from 1811 to 1871, Glas was a teacher, organist and sacristan in Peterskirchen. The large "binder room" of the castle was used as a classroom from 1820 until the construction of a new school building in 1864. The other owners were Anton Glas, Josef Glas, Erik Zimen and the Lipinski family.

Peterskirchen used to be a center of pottery . Around 1750, Count von Tattenbach brought the potters who had become unemployed in the Westerwald to Peterskirchen. They took the stoneware clay, which could be burned at temperatures of up to 1,300 degrees, from the nearby Saugarten, a wooded area between Peterskirchen and Baumgarten. Wood and salt for the special salt glaze were also easy to obtain. This salt glaze made the pottery products from Peterskirchen suitable for water pipes, storage pots, beer mugs, water bottles and water jugs. Because many "Voglnirscherl" (food bowls for birds) were also made, Peterskirchen was known as the "Voglnirscherldorf" until the 20th century. In addition, stove tiles, mortars, salbenkacherl, frying pans and balloons were made. When iron and sheet metal crockery prevailed at the beginning of the 20th century, the era of pottery in Peterskirchen came to an end.

The last fire in Peterskirchen, which had belonged to the Baumgarten community since the beginning of the 19th century, was around 1903. With the Baumgarten community, Peterskirchen became part of the Dietersburg community on July 1, 1971 as part of the regional reform in Bavaria .

In church terms, Peterskirchen was originally a branch of Johanniskirchen . 1860 Expositur , in 1902 the parish Peterskirchen was established.

Attractions

  • The late Gothic parish church of St. Peter and Paul was built around 1470 by the nobles von Grub. The tower originally had a gable roof and only got its current height in 1878. The church has a reticulated vault with remains of paintings from the 16th century. The interior is mostly neo-Gothic. The former grave chapel of the Pienzenauer on the north side was rebuilt and increased in the baroque period. In 1878 the Antonius Altar was erected there.
  • Peterskirchen Castle was built in the early Renaissance style in the first half of the 16th century. It's privately owned.
