from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulrich II († March 7, 1524 in Söldenau ) was the eldest son of Count Sebastian I of Ortenburg and Countess Maria zu Neuburg . Ulrich comes from the Lower Bavarian noble family of Ortenburgers . After the death of his cousin Wolfgang , he took over the government of the County of Ortenburg in 1519 .

Live and act

Ulrich II appeared in a document for the first time in 1491, together with his younger siblings.

Söldenau Castle was inherited by Ulrich II von Ortenburg in 1511.

With his marriage to Veronika von Aichberg, Ulrich II came to large estates. However, after the death of his father-in-law in 1511, he inherited large debts after he had lost all of his fortune. The large possessions of Johann von Aichberg were divided among the heirs. Ulrich received the castles and villages in Söldenau and Saldenburg . The latter was already owned by Heinrich V and Georg II. In 1463 Saldenburg was lost through the marriage of Heinrich's widow. In addition to the generous inheritance, there was also a major inheritance dispute with Johann von Degenberg over the imperial county of Hals . Even Emperor Maximilian had to intervene in these . The dispute was not settled until 1517 after the intervention of Duke Ludwig X. of Bavaria . Ulrich was awarded the castles Söldenau and Saldenburg , but the county was sold to Ludwig.

In 1515 Ulrich received from Emperor Maximilian the summons to take part in the campaign against the Turks.

After the death of his cousin Wolfgang , who died in 1519 , Ulrich became the incumbent Count of Ortenburg. On April 24, 1522, however, the county was enfeoffed by Emperor Charles V.

In the course of his life Ulrich II exercised the office of carer several times , including in Neuburg am Inn (1506), Teisbach (1508) and Abensberg (1510–1513).

Ulrich II died on March 7, 1524 in Söldenau. His possessions were divided among his children. The office of imperial count passed to his younger brother Christoph I , in accordance with the seniority principle . Ulrich II was buried in the Passau hereditary funeral in the St. Sixtus Chapel .

progeny
