from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Georg II († before February 1489 ) was the eldest son of Count Heinrich V von Ortenburg and Ursula Ecker zu Saldenburg . He came from the Lower Bavarian noble family of Ortenburgers . After the death of his cousin Alram II in 1461, he became the acting Count of Ortenburg.

Live and act

George II appeared for the first time at the side of his great-uncle Etzel I in 1431. In 1445 he called himself Graf zu Saldenburg , after the property his mother had brought to the Ortenburg house. Ten years later he bears the title Graf zu Neu-Ortenburg , after his inherited residence .

In 1466 and 1467 Georg was in the service of Duke Ludwig IX. from Bayern-Landshut as advice. In 1471 he became councilor of Count Palatine Otto II zu Moosbach .

After the death of his cousin Alram II , he became the incumbent count of the imperial county of Ortenburg in 1460 . His term of office is characterized by sales and inheritance disputes. An inheritance dispute over the Engelsberg Castle, which he had acquired from Alram II, continued until 1468 and was ended with a settlement. In 1471 he even sold the castle entirely to Heinrich Nothaft von Wernberg.

Another dispute revolved around the Hofmark Abtshofen. The Ebersberg monastery claimed it as an endowment, Georg II as an imperial fief . The first arbitration verdict of Duke Ludwig IX. in 1466 remained unsuccessful. Not until Duke Albrecht the Wise of Bavaria-Munich , on behalf of Emperor Ferdinand III. , again ruled in favor of the monastery, the dispute was settled.

In 1488, Georg renounced the office of incumbent count in favor of his brother Sebastian I , probably for health reasons .

progeny

Count Georg II was married to Anastasia von Fraunberg . The following children were born from this marriage:
