Petru Ciobanu (* 16th July 1993 in Chisinau ) is a Moldovan boxer in light heavyweight .

Career

Petru Ciobanu was Moldovan light heavyweight champion in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016 and also won a bronze medal in this weight class at the 2013 European Championships in Minsk ; After victories against Nikolajs Grišuņins , Vladimir Milevskij and Simone Fiori, he was eliminated in the semifinals against Peter Müllenberg . He was also a silver medalist in the light heavyweight division at the U22 European Championships in 2012 in Kaliningrad . He was only defeated in the final against Dmitri Biwol , after he had previously defeated Igor Teziev, Vatan Huseynli and Nikita Versockis.

In the 2013/14 season he boxed for the Mexico Guerreros team in the World Series of Boxing and took part in the 2013 World Championships in Almaty . He was also a participant in the 2014 EU Championships in Sofia and the 2015 European Games in Baku .

At the World Olympic Qualifier 2016 in Venezuela , he defeated Dilbag Singh and lost to Juan Carrillo , which meant that he could not qualify for the 2016 Olympic Games .

In October 2015 he played his first professional fight.
