Petrus Domenicus Rosius à Porta (born October 1, 1734 in Ftan , † May 19, 1806 in Zuoz ) was a Swiss Reformed clergyman and church historian .

Life

Petrus Domenicus Rosius à Porta was born in Ftan in Graubünden in 1734 as the son of Peter Rosius. He studied theology at the academies in Bern , Basel , Debrecen and Nagy-Enyed (Transylvania). There he also completed an apprenticeship as a book printer. In 1756 the Evangelical-Rhaetian Synod accepted him , which allowed him to work as a pastor in the Free State of the Three Leagues . In the same year he took over the pastor's position in Feldis and moved to Masein a year later . In 1758 he was elected pastor in his home town of Ftan, where he stayed until 1764. In 1760 he married Greta Nicola and in 1764 Anna Stoupan Sechia. In 1765 he was employed in S-chanf and in 1781 in Castasegna . In 1791 he went to Soglio GR and stayed there for ten years. In 1801 he returned to his home village of Ftan. In 1803 he became deputy vicar in Zuoz, which he remained until his death on May 19, 1806.

Act

à Porta was particularly involved in the synod and was President of the Lower Engadine in Sent. Among other things, he participated in the mediation and settlement of the dispute with the Moravian Brethren .

à Porta was one of the most important Enlightenment theologians in Graubünden. He wrote the Historia Reformationis Ecclesiarum Raeticarum , a two-volume work on the history of the Graubünden Reformation published in Chur between 1771 and 1777, which went unnoticed at the time, but was to become important for subsequent research. He collected the sources for the work, which covered the period up to 1648, as early as 1760. A manuscript for a likely third volume was later found in the Salis-Zizers family archive. The disinterest of his contemporaries probably prevented the publication of this volume and other works.
