history

The church is first mentioned in a document in 842. The first priest is mentioned in a document in 1256. A letter of indulgence from 1490 has survived . In 1503 a document reports that the church was rebuilt. This building was consecrated in 1506. In 1826 the nave was extended, and in 1874 the church was refurbished. In 1931 the church was restored by Alfons Fritz . Between 1972 and 1975 the church was rebuilt according to plans by Rudolf Greussing . The Gothic choir and church tower were retained and included.

architecture

Church exterior

The church is a mighty modern building complex with three levels of height and width under gable roofs . The building is articulated by concrete struts. The Gothic choir in the east of the building is under a gable roof. The choir is divided by four pointed arch windows and tracery . In the west there is a church tower with a tapered upper floor with arched sound openings and a flat dome over a profiled cornice from 1826. Both floors are divided by corner pilasters. The parish hall, youth rooms and the library are housed in the southern basement.

Church interior

The church is a large meeting room. The inside of the building is staggered three times, analogous to the exterior. Strip lights are integrated in the roof zone. The space is divided by concrete cross-beams and pillars, some of which are clad in wood. The choir arch is ogival. That 5/8 choir has moved in and has one yoke. Above it is a ribbed vault that rests on consoles . The vault closes in round keystones towards the top. The rear keystone is decorated with a three-pass . The three-pass probably comes from Hans Sturn from Göfis. He created it between 1503 and 1506. The tracery windows are painted with stained glass from 1974. The paintings were created according to a design by Wider in the Loire stained glass factory in Chartres . The left window of the choir shows the “ miraculous multiplication of the bread ”, the middle window shows the “ vine of Christ ” and the right window the “ Lamb of God ”. The south wall window in the choir shows Saint Lucius with the coats of arms of Chur , Göfis and Augsburg . At the entrance to the sacristy is also a stained glass depicting the church of Göfis. Like all other windows, it was made to a design by A. Wider in Chartres.

Furnishing

The tabernacle with Salvator in the Gothic choir was created by A. Wider in 1975. On the wall of the choir arch is a figure of Mary with a child from the middle of the 17th century. The crucifix was created by Erasmus Kern in 1630/31 . In the side chapel there are figures of Saints Magnus , Rochus and Sebastian , also by Erasmus Kern from the years 1630 and 1631. The standing crucifix comes from the middle of the 17th century. In the entrance hall there is a statue of Francis from the end of the 18th century. The painting "Flagellation of Christ" was created at the end of the 17th century. The picture "Mariahilf with St. Sebastian and the Holy Bishop" is baroque . The baptismal font has evangelist symbols as well as Christ and St. Mary in medallions. The stations of the cross are wooden reliefs. They were created around 1880 in Val Gardena . In the church there is a memorial for Carl Lampert from Göfis.

organ

The organ was made by Anton Behmann in 1931. It was rebuilt in 1961.
