The parish church Glödnitz is a Roman Catholic church in the diocese of Gurk . It is consecrated to St. Margaret and is located in Glödnitz in Carinthia.

history

A Michael's chapel in Glödnitz was mentioned in 1043 as the Hemma von Gurk's own church . In 1370 the patronage of St. Margaretha for Glödnitz was mentioned for the first time. Glödnitz has been an independent parish since 1393. The Filialkirche Flattnitz also belongs to the parish of Glödnitz .

Building

The church is surrounded by an almost square fortified cemetery. In the high defensive wall from the last third of the 15th century, numerous loopholes and beam holes of the former battlement have been preserved. A round barn is included in the defensive wall as a corner tower in the southeast.

The core of the nave comes from the Romanesque period . In the northern chapel, accessible from the choir, the masonry of the original Michael’s chapel may still be preserved. The Gothic choir, supported by buttresses , was built around 1360/70. The tower on the south side of the choir with a Gothic sound window in the east and an eight-sided pointed helmet dates from the same time. Gothic fresco painting on the west side of the tower ground floor shows Mary's death and Jesus on the Mount of Olives . The oldest bell was probably cast in 1448, a second in 1504 by Peter Pfinzing and a third in 1641 by Georg Viering. In the originally flat roofed nave, a four-bay , late-Gothic reticulated vault was built on recessed pillars in the first half of the 16th century . A pointed arched triumphal arch connects the nave and the single -bay choir with five-eighth end and narrow pointed-arched windows. The sacristy is on the first floor of the tower.

Murals

In 1993 the figurally painted three-pass shapes in the vault of the nave were uncovered. The paintings in the crown of the nave vault, executed using the Al-Secco technique , depict Saints Andreas , Martin , Margareta and Anna selbdritt . The room setting from 1600 was restored.

Facility

The high altar

The high altar from 1742 is a baroque sacrificial aisle altar with a closed center and protruding column architecture. The carpentry work was carried out by Jörg Mäglär from Glödnitz, the gilding work was done by Anton Valentin Karcher. In the shrine there is a carved figure of St. Margaret, flanked by the figures of St. Bartholomew , Andreas, Florian and Donatus . In the essay is the sculpture of St. Martin.

The side altar, made around 1640, consists of a two-column aedicula on a high base and a small cartilage cartouche in the blasted segmented gable . The main picture shows Mary with child, the top picture shows the angel's fall .

The altar in the north side chapel was built in the second half of the 18th century and shows the crucifixion on the altar panel.

On the back wall of the baroque pulpit from the middle of the 18th century, the handing over of the tablet of the law to Moses is shown.

Other furnishings include a baroque crucifix , the Stations of the Cross painted around 1840 on the triumphal arch , nine images of the apostles on the wooden west gallery, the console statue of Ecce homo and an octagonal, Gothic font .

Karner

The Karner is a three-story, late Gothic rotunda built around 1500 with a corbel portal , narrow pointed arch windows and a curved conical roof with turrets. The upper storey served as a defensive storey. The key loopholes under the roof are evidence of this. The ossuary is located in the basement .
