history

A parish was mentioned in 1356. The Gothic village church was built in the 15th century. In 1862 the church was greatly changed and renewed. 1975 was an interior restoration.

architecture

The Gothic nave has been preserved and was extended in 1862 and restored inside in 1996. Like the northern sacristy , the chancel and the west tower with its pointed gable roof date from the 19th century and are neo-Gothic .

The western tower portal has a pointed arch. The coat of arms of the Lords of Aichelberg is attached to the profiled, Gothic pointed arch portal in the south wall .

A stone figure from the middle of the 14th century is walled into the south wall of the nave. Also in the south wall is a simple, female head made from a Roman round medallion or niche portrait tombstone, as well as a Roman grave relief depicting two sacrificial servants. Other Roman-era inscriptions and reliefs found during the renovation in 1862 have been transferred to the Carinthia State Museum .

Above the five-bay nave, a late Gothic star rib vault rests on shallow, set pillars with services presented . The walled organ gallery on belt arches extends far into the nave. A pointed triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir, which has a ribbed vault on Gothic head consoles and a five-eighth end .

Facility

High altar

The baroque high altar with double column position, blown segment gable and a small aedicula as an attachment as well as a richly carved antependium with the heart of Jesus and plant decoration was created around 1700 and originally stood in the pilgrimage church of St. Wolfgang in Grades . In the central niche he bears the statue of St. Margaret and in the top a Madonna. The figures come from the former high altar created by Franz Oblak in 1895. Further figures of the altar, Saints Catherine and Barbara, are placed on the south wall of the nave, the statue of Saint Joseph with child comes from the neo-Gothic side altar.

The octagonal, Gothic font is marked with a maker's mark. In the western tower niche there are gravestones from 1813 and 1849. In the sacristy there is a late Gothic sacrament niche with a keel arch from the beginning of the 16th century, which comes from the demolished Gothic choir. There are also three baroque figures from the second half of the 18th century.

A Lady Chapel has been set up on the first floor of the tower. At the altar there is a statue of the Heart of the Virgin Mary and two adoring angels in front of the painted background of the hill Golgotha . On the side walls there are pictures of Jesus praying in the garden of Golgotha and the kiss of Judas .
