The Roman Catholic parish church Markt Neuhodis stands on a hill above the municipality of Markt Neuhodis in the Oberwart district in Burgenland . It is consecrated to St. John the Baptist and belongs to the dean's office in Rechnitz in the diocese of Eisenstadt . The building is a listed building .

history

The church was built in 1776 using partly medieval, partly baroque masonry. In 1939 the parish became independent. Restorations took place in 1832, 1952, 1974 and 1976.

The church is a long, single-nave building with a square choir of the same width. It has a high church tower with a pointed helmet . This is medieval on the ground floor.

Church interior

The five yokes of the nave and the choir yoke are barrel-vaulted with stitch caps . The church interior is structured as a pilaster . The gallery rests over a wide arch. The triumphal arch is made narrow.

Furnishing

The high altar was created around 1754. it is a two-storey columned altar with four wooden figures depicting Saints James , Philip on the outside and Saints Cosmas and Damian on the inside. The altarpiece shows the "Baptism of Christ" and was created in 1776. It is a copy after Guido Reni . The original hangs in the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna . The attribution to Johann Heinrich Füger is questionable.

The right side altar was built in the middle of the 18th century. This is a narrow columned altar. The wooden figures represent Saints Sebastian and Rochus . The picture shows Saint John Nepomuk .

The left side altar was created in 1776 and consists of a reredos back wall with a curved outline. A Lourdes Madonna stands on the altar. The altar is decorated with putti and vases.

The pulpit was built in the middle of the 18th century. Seated figures of the four evangelists are depicted on the basket.
