Building description

It is a Romanesque choir tower church from the second half of the 12th century with late Gothic and Baroque renovations and additions. The masonry of the nave and the choir tower have been preserved from the Romanesque building. The round-arched twin windows in the Romanesque fifth bell storey were partially walled up. The arched sound windows on the sixth floor date from the Baroque, the pointed helmet from the 19th century. The Gothic choir, supported by three-tiered buttresses , was built around 1400. A two-storey Gothic sacristy with a spiral staircase and loopholes is attached to the north side of the tower . On the south side there is a baroque sacristy. On the southern outer wall, a Roman period round medallion from a grave building with the relief busts of a couple with a child from the second half of the second century is walled in. The woman wears a Celtic costume. The two Christophorus frescoes on the south facade, uncovered in 1997, were created around 1500 and 1600 respectively.

In the three-bay nave, a star rib vault rests on shallow wall pillars from the second half of the 15th century, which are supported on the outside by buttresses. Around 1775 the ship was extended to the west by a cross -arched gallery yoke. A high, round-arched triumphal arch connects the nave with the tower square, equipped with a baroque groin vault. The polygonal, Gothic choir closure has a ribbed vault. Two tracery windows have been preserved on the sloping walls of the choir . The other window openings are baroque.
