Adoration of the Magi

The Roman Catholic parish church Mellweg is consecrated to Holy Getraud . It is in the municipality of Hermagor .

Building description

The church was built around 1400. In 1844 the nave was extended by a yoke . The building consists of a five-bay nave and a two-bay choir with a three-eighths connection. The squat tower on the south side of the choir with two-part, round-arched sound windows is crowned by a pointed gable helmet. There is a round window above the arched west portal. The fresco of a crucifixion group with the Arma Christi from around 1400 was uncovered in 1998.

A ribbed vault rests on consoles over the four original bays of the nave . The west yoke is barrel vaulted . The organ built by Josef Grafenauer in 1870 stands on the baroque wooden gallery with a painted central medallion of St. Lawrence . A retracted, round-arched triumphal arch connects the nave with the choir with a star rib vault on consoles. The original keel arch tracery has been preserved in the two two-part, late Gothic arched windows at the end of the choir. From the south side of the choir, an arched portal with an iron-studded door leads into the groin-vaulted sacristy on the tower ground floor. The fresco with the procession and the Adoration of the Magi on the north wall of the nave was created around 1400 and was later fragmented by installing windows.
