The Roman Catholic parish church Neudörfl an der Leitha stands on the southern edge of the municipality Neudörfl ( Hungarian : Lajtaszentmiklós, ie "St. Nikolaus an der Leitha" , Croatian : Najderflj ) in the Mattersburg district in Burgenland . It is dedicated to the feast of the birth of the Virgin Mary and belongs to the Deanery Mattersburg in the Diocese of Eisenstadt . The church is a listed building .

history

The first church was built in 1669 and made a parish church in 1670. During the second Turkish siege of Vienna in 1683, the church was destroyed. Then it was rebuilt enlarged. After further expansion and the erection of the tower in 1783, the church was consecrated again . Several renovations took place in the 19th century. During the renovation in 1952, the valuable baroque furnishings were removed and replaced with modern furnishings. Another restoration took place in 1974. The church was originally consecrated to St. Nicholas and was only later placed under the patronage of the feast of the birth of the Virgin Mary.

architecture

The church is a large church building in the Baroque style . The polygonal apse is just as wide as the nave, from which it is separated by two buttresses . A three-story tower with a stone pyramid helmet is built onto the western wall of the nave . Above the portal there is a niche with a wooden baroque figure of St. Nicholas. However, the figure is currently inside the church. The north facade of the church is divided by a curved gable . The sacristy and a chapel with a semicircular apse are attached to the fourth yoke . The church interior has four bays under groined vaults . This is between belt arches that rest on flat pilasters . The gallery is three-axis and has a curved parapet. The chapel has a groin vault.

Furnishing

There is an oil painting in the passage to the side chapel. This is a former pilgrimage picture. The following inscription can be read on the picture: “This picture of a woman is in 1683 in dißen Löbl. Church in the middle of the conflagration when she was retired by the Turks remained unharmed ”(Today's translation:“ This image of a woman survived the conflagration of the Turks in this church unscathed in 1683 ”).
