The Roman Catholic parish church Niedergrünbach is located in the village of Niedergrünbach in the municipality of Rastenfeld in the Zwettl district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to Saints Philip and James and is located in the Deanery Zwettl in the quarter above the Manhartsberg of the diocese of St. Pölten . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands on the eastern outskirts of the village of Niedergrünbach, to the west on the L 73 road.

history

The parish was renewed in 1407 and 1716. The current church was built in 1739.

architecture

Church exterior

The church is a baroque hall building . The nave is structured pilasters on the west side and has profiled cornices. There is a round gable above the portal. There is a semicircular niche in the gable wall. There is a small oval window above it. The nave facade is broken up by arched windows. There are also arched windows in the choir square and the semicircular apse. To the south of the choir stands a church tower over a square floor plan. It is divided into three floors by cornices. On the second floor there are flat niches, on the third floor there are sound windows that are rectangular. The two upper floors are framed by pilasters. The roof dates from around 1870. A vestibule was added to the south of the nave.

Church interior

The nave of the church has three bays and barrel vaulted caps . In between are coupled belt arches that rest on pilasters. The organ gallery is vaulted under the groin and rests on two pillars. The entrance is via a spiral staircase . The choir vault is groin vaulted and has a final conche. The basement of the tower is used as a sacristy . The sacristy has a groin vault.

Furnishing

The high altar was erected in 1756. It is a column retable with a circular openwork extension. The cafeteria is shaped like a sarcophagus. On the altar are the figures of Maria Immaculate with adoring angels and the two titular saints, Philip and James. The excerpt depicts the Most Holy Trinity and Saint Michael at the top of the high altar . Figures of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and St. Mary are placed on consoles in front of the altar . The figures were created in the 19th century.

The two side altars are similar and both date from the second half of the 18th century. On the left side altar there is a Pietà of Mary of the Seven Pains and figures of angels. There is an acheiropoieton in the top .

On the right side altar the holy " Anna Maria teaching reading" is depicted. Saint John the Baptist and Saint Barbara are also shown. The pulpit dates from the third quarter of the 18th century. The baptismal font with volutes dates from the late 18th century. The Stations of the Cross are from the late 19th century.

organ

The organ dates from 1785 and was rebuilt by Benedikt Latzl in 1853 . The organ case is decorated with leaf ornamentation.
