Parish Church Pabneukirchen

The parish church of Pabneukirchen is in the market town of Pabneukirchen in the district of Perg . The church from around 1500 is considered one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Upper Austria and is a listed building . The parish church consecrated to the holy martyrs Simon and Jude belongs to the deanery Grein in the diocese of Linz .

history

In 1147 Otto von Machland placed the church in Pabneukirchen under the patronage of the Säbnich monastery (later Waldhausen), which he founded . In 1220 the church had full parish rights. In the 14th century the chaplains, in the 15th century the Liechtensteiners had patronage. The patronage came from the Liechtensteiners to the Pulgarn Monastery , after the dissolution of the monastery during the Reformation in 1567 to the Pulgarn rule and from this to the Jesuits in 1609 and 1612 and to the St. Florian Monastery in 1837 .

Church building and furnishings

Instead of a wooden church , a Romanesque church should have been built at the time of Bishop Altmann († 1091) , which was destroyed during the Hussite Wars (1425–1431) and of which remains can still be seen on the front wall of the church and in the base of the tower are.

The late Gothic building, built at the end of the 15th and beginning of the 16th century, has a three- nave nave with a remarkable centralizing spatial effect, which is reinforced by the ribbed vaults and octagonal pillars .

The organ gallery is supported by three horizontal girders made of wedge stones. The twelve fields of the gallery parapet are adorned with late Gothic or Renaissance rosettes . The balcony is particularly delicate. The high altar from the end of the 17th century with a cross comes from the abandoned Waldhausen monastery .

In addition to some pictures ( Descent of the Holy Spirit , The Resurrected ) by Josef Czerwenka (1809), the granite baptismal font from the 15th century and the Way of the Cross by Ludwig Linzinger are worth mentioning.

In 1968, a fresco depicting the Arma Christi on the wall above the sacristy from around 1350 was rediscovered, which is considered an important testimony to medieval piety. A copy was made by the Polish refugee Piotr Listkiewicz and placed in the chancel of the church.
