Location description

The church is located in the village of Plangeross and is surrounded by a cemetery.

history

In the middle of the 18th century the mountain farmers of Plangeross received their own clergy after numerous requests. The church was built in 1765 in place of an older chapel and consecrated in 1778 . In 1891 it was elevated to a parish church, but since 1957 care has been taken from the town of St. Leonhard. The interior was restored between 1976 and 1978.

architecture

Exterior description

The church is a simple late Baroque building with a compact east tower, recessed choir and western front yoke.

Inside description

Above the square nave there is a square vault that rests on pillars. The basket-arched triumphal arch separates the nave and the choir. The choir ends with a 5/8 end.

In the 19th century the church had three altars and three ceiling paintings with St. Mary's motifs, which were painted over by Thomas Köhle in 1900 , similar to the Zaunhof branch church . Wolfram Köberl created today's ceiling paintings in 1976. The small, circular ceiling painting in the chancel shows two putti holding a tape with the words “Con CVrre ChrIstIanItas aD aVXILI atrICeM”. In the flat dome of the main room, the ceiling painting shows a complex iconographic program, the central motif of which is Christ's work of redemption. Köberl also created the Stations of the Cross in the interior.

Furnishing

The high altar with its late rococo forms was created in 1774 and consecrated as part of the church consecration in 1778. On the altar there is a picture of Mariahilf based on the miraculous image of Mariahilf in Innsbruck Cathedral , including purgatory , above the God the Father and the dove of the Holy Spirit. This and the picture in the excerpt of Christ as the Good Shepherd probably come from Josef Wörle from Imst.

On the high altar there are also statues of St. Joseph and St. James by Martin Falbesoner from 1771. The baroque pulpit is now used as an ambo . On the right of the choir arch is a baroque figure of the Madonna and Child , a private gift to the church.

organ

Mathias Weber's organ dates from the second quarter of the 19th century.
