The parish church of St. Johann am Pressen stands at an altitude of 1244 meters in the village of the same name north of the Mosnitzgraben in the municipality of Hüttenberg . The church, built between 1130 and 1135 by the Salzburg ministerial and cleric Rudbert, was consecrated by Bishop Roman I before 1160 and is under the patronage of John the Baptist . Around 1708 the church was redesigned in the baroque style .

Building description

The Romanesque choir tower with round arched sound openings is crowned by a curved pyramid helmet. To the north of the tower there is a late Gothic sacristy with a probably Romanesque core. The western sacristy portal is provided with Romanesque fittings. On the south wall of the nave is the tomb of trades Rauscher from 1829 with Biedermeier - aedicula and cast iron plate and two baroque wrought iron crosses attached.

A baroque groin vault on pillars rises above the three-bay nave . The window openings were renewed in baroque style. A high round arched triumphal arch connects the nave and the just closed choir bay with groin vault. In the choir there is a sacrament niche from the 15th century and a late Gothic font with a revised carved figure from the early 16th century.

Facility

In the middle of the 18th century, sacrificial portals were added to the baroque high altar, built around 1720 . The altar bears a baptismal group and the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul . These sculptures were probably created by Johann Pacher . The tabernacle is decorated with a delicate crucifixion group from the first quarter of the 18th century.

The left cross altar dates from the middle of the 18th century. On the right side altar from the middle of the 17th century, a Christ Salvator from the first quarter of the 18th century is depicted in the cafeteria.

The pulpit is indicated by the chronogram with 1776. The relief on the pulpit shows the sermon of John the Baptist. A hand with a cross is attached to the pulpit.

The church has baroque console statues of St. Joseph , Johann Nepomuk and Martin .

A Roman epitaph for the local couple Silvanus and Togia is walled into the northern triumphal arch. Another grave inscription fragment serves as a plate on the Altarmensa.
