history

In 1252 a church was mentioned in a document. The square choir tower and parts of the nave walls have been preserved from the Romanesque church building. After a fire during the Turkish invasion in 1480, the church was renovated and consecrated in 1491. 1964/1965 was an interior restoration.

architecture

The church stands in a cemetery with a cemetery wall with initiation chapels .

The five-bay nave with a star rib vault on profiled services down to the floor has chapel niches due to the buttresses set. The keystones in the vault show the symbols of the Evangelists and the Lamb of God with reliefs. The strongly constricted front arch is rounded. The one-bay choir with a Romanesque domed vault carries a mighty Romanesque square choir tower with four-part Romanesque sound windows on pillars. The baroque tower dome has an open eight-sided lantern and a double onion. Under the eaves of the nave and the tower is a baroque lambrequin cornice . The three-axis baroque west gallery on a groin vault has a protruding parapet on the side. The two-bay sacristy extension with a groin vault north of the choir has a shoulder-arched sacristy portal with a door with iron fittings. The sacrament niche in the choir has a crab-covered keel arch with a finial and corner branches and a simple wrought iron grille.

On the tower and the nave there are one ornamental and four figural Roman stone fragments.

Furnishing

The delightful high altar and the side altars at the same time were created by Johann Pacher's workshop around 1768 . The high altar with gallery portals carries the statues of Saints George and Florian, each with two evangelists seated, framed by a loose rococo ornament. The left side altar shows the picture Anna teaches Maria to read, influenced by Franz Anton Maulbertsch . The right side altar shows the picture of Petri handing over the keys . The baroque cross altar is from the first quarter of the 18th century. The pulpit is from the second quarter of the 18th century.

In a chapel niche are the late Gothic statues of Saints Catherine and Margaretha around 1490. Between them hangs a picture of St. Joseph with the signature F. Wagenschön after the middle of the 18th century in a richly carved frame, a similar frame on the front arch shows the image of the Klagenfurt Christ.

The twelve-sided late Gothic font bears a baroque essay.

The organ case is from the second quarter of the 18th century, the organ work is from 1924.
