The Parish Church Thörl is the Roman Catholic parish church in Palbersdorf, a cadastral parish of Thörl in the district of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag in the state of Styria . It is consecrated to the Holy Trinity . Together with the parish of Aflenz, it forms a parish association in the deanery of Bruck an der Mur .

history

On September 1, 1959, Josef Koch came to Aflenz as a chaplain with the task of preparing the initiation of the foundation of the parish and the building of a church in Thörl. The Barbara Chapel in Thörl Castle has served as a mess chapel since 1469 . However, this became too small due to the population growth after the Second World War .

The chaplain was able to move into the newly built rectory on October 31, 1959. A little later the parish council decided to build a new church. The Mariazell architect Kurt Weber-Mzell was commissioned with the planning for the church . After an episcopal visitation on June 24, 1961, Thörl was raised to the position of the parish exposition of Aflenz and the future parish area was determined. In addition to the municipality of Thörl (with the exception of Zöbriach), it also includes the municipalities of St. Ilgen and Etmißl , each with its own church. The foundation stone was laid on October 7, 1962. Almost two years later, on June 21, 1964, the church was opened by Diocesan Bishop Josef Schoiswohl St. Trinity consecrated and raised to the parish church.

Architecture and equipment

Typical materials such as exposed concrete , glass, iron and asphalt were used to build the church - but wood and bricks were also used.

The shape of the church is based on that of a tent - it symbolizes the "tent of God". This shape is made possible by steel cables that support the church roof. The free-standing bell tower is striking. The stained glass windows contrast with the sober colors of the building materials. The two windows “Creation” and “ Holy Spirit ” were created by the Styrian artist Werner Augustiner , the window in the baptistery with a representation of the “ Baptism of Jesus ” was designed by Franz Kölldorfer. There is a large, colored cross window above the entrance.

The fourteen Stations of the Cross painted by Hans Fronius with black solder on colored cathedral glass are of great artistic importance . The Way of the Cross is located on the otherwise undeveloped east wall, in which the individual glass plates are set into loopholes at different heights. The individual stations have a size of 30 × 20 cm and the painted side faces the inside of the church.

The altar cross with body comes from Alexander Silveri .
