Lepismium ianthothele is a species of the genus Lepismium in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet ianthothele means' (Greek ianthos) violet, (Greek thele) warts; with purple warts'.

Lepismium ianthothele grows epiphytically or lithophytically shrubby with weak, spreading or hanging, moderately branched, 30 to 60 centimeters long shoots . The mostly square, sometimes triangular, light green shoot segments have a diameter of 1.5 to 2 centimeters. Their edges are humped. The areoles have six to seven bristle-like thorns 4 to 5 millimeters long.

The white, yellowish or occasionally slightly pink flowers appear laterally or sometimes terminally. They are 2 to 2.4 inches long. Your pericarpel is covered with bristles. The spherical fruits are purple-pink in color.

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Lepismium ianthothele is distributed in southeastern Bolivia in the departments of Cochabamba , Chuquisaca , Santa Cruz and Tarija and in northwestern Argentina in the provinces of Jujuy , Salta , Tucumán and Catamarca at altitudes of 500 to 2000 meters.

It was first described as Cereus ianthothele in 1839 by Hippolyte Boissel de Monville . Wilhelm Barthlott placed Art in 1987 in the genus Lepismium . Nomenclatory synonyms are Pfeiffera ianthothele (Monv.) FACWeber (1898) and Rhipsalis ianthothele (Monv.) K.Brandegee (1902).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is listed as " Least Concern (LC) ". H. listed as not endangered.
