Puffy coast
The left bank of the Swiss Lake Zurich is jokingly referred to in the vernacular as the Pfnüsel coast ( Zurich German for sniff coast). The name has its origins in comparison to the right bank of Lake Zurich, which is known as the Gold Coast and, due to the south-facing slope, enjoys considerably more sun, while the left bank of the lake is suspected of causing more colds due to the earlier shadow.
The term steel coast is also used synonymously for Pfnüsel coast, alluding to the fact that on this side of the lake with the communities Kilchberg , Rüschlikon , Thalwil , Oberrieden , Horgen , Wädenswil , Richterswil , Wollerau , Freienbach , Altendorf , Lachen , Wangen , Tuggen there are more businesses and industry is located as on the Gold Coast, which is known as the residential area of the wealthy.
In recent years, the term Silver Coast has been used occasionally for the left bank of Lake Zurich.
