Phillipe Richard Bourque (* 8. June 1962 in Chelmsford , Massachusetts ) is a retired American ice hockey player , who in his active period from 1980 to 2000, including for the Pittsburgh Penguins , New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League played .
Career
Phil Bourque began his career as a hockey player with the Kingston Canadians , for which he was active from 1980 to 1982 in the Canadian Junior League Ontario Hockey League . He then received in October 1982 a contract as a free agent with the Pittsburgh Penguins . From 1982 to 1987 he played mostly for their farm team Baltimore Skipjacks in the American Hockey League , while he was only occasionally used for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League . Also in the 1987/88 season he played mainly for the Penguins' new farm team, the Muskegon Lumberjacks from the International Hockey League . In the IHL he was able to convince and was elected to the First All-Star Team of the league. He also received the Governor's Trophy as the best defender of the IHL. From the 1988/89 season, the winger was able to fight for a regular place with the Penguins, with whom he won the prestigious Stanley Cup in the 1990/91 and 1991/92 seasons .
In the summer of 1992 Bourque signed a free agent contract with the New York Rangers , with whom he stayed for a year and a half before he was transferred to the Ottawa Senators in March 1994 after only a short period of service in his second year with the Rangers . He was also unable to fully convince the Senators, so that he switched to the Detroit Vipers from the IHL during the 1995/96 season. He spent the 1996/97 season with their league rivals Chicago Wolves . He was able to convince in Detroit as well as in Chicago, so that he was obliged for the 1997/98 season by the Starbulls Rosenheim from the German Ice Hockey League . He finally let his career come to an end from 1998 to 2000 with the German second division club Crocodiles Hamburg .
International
For the USA Bourque took part in the 1994 World Cup. He prepared a goal in eight games.
