Philip Arestis

Philip Arestis (* 1941 in Famagusta , Cyprus ) is a British economist .

Live and act

Philip Arestis studied in Athens Economics and then gained at the London School of Economics to Master of Science . He then went to the Woolwich Polytechnic, a predecessor of today's University of Greenwich , and taught at the same time at the University of Surrey and at the University of Cambridge . He received a Ph.D. from the University of Surrey in the mid-1970s. , became Senior Lecturer and later Principal Lecturer and Head of Economics at the University of Greenwich . There the journal Thames Papers in Political Economy was founded, which became the International Papers in Political Economy and is edited by Philip Arestis and Malcolm C. Sawyer. He was later appointed professor at the University of East London , where he became head of the Department of Economics. After several guest stays, including several years at Bard College in New York State, he came to the Department of Agricultural Science at the University of Cambridge. He helped found the Cambridge Center for Economic and Public Policy and is its director of research.

Philip Arestis is a Fellow Emeritus at Wolfson College , Cambridge. He is or was a professor of economics at the Universidad del País Vasco , Spain, Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of Utah , a senior scholar at the Levy Economics Institute in New York, Professorial Research Associate at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London and visiting professor at Leeds Business School, University of Leeds . From 2009 to 2010 he held the Queen Victoria Eugenia Chair of the British Hispanic Foundation and was an advisor to the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation under the auspices of the Asian Development Bank . He is Chief Economic Advisor to the UK Government Economic Service.
