Philipp Frankfurter (* 1450 ; † 1511 ) was a 15th century poet from Vienna .
Life
He collected quizzes about the pastor of Kalenberg, which he, provided with a rhyming frame narrative, published as Des pfaffen geschicht und histori vom Kalenberg . Pastor Weigand von Theben, who worked in Kahlenbergerdorf near Vienna around 1330, is said to have been the historical model . Manuscripts of the work have not survived; the first print appeared in Augsburg around 1480 . It was reprinted several times well into the 17th century and also translated into Low German, Dutch and English. The pastor of Kalenberg is found both in Sebastian Brant's Ship of Fools and the chapbook of Till Eulenspiegel again. Anastasius Grün published the verse epic Der Pfaff vom Kahlenberg in 1850 .
