Philipp Weiss (* 1971 in Munich ) is a German crooner who has made a name for himself in the field of jazz .

Career

Weiss grew up in a musical family; his father played the jazz guitar as an amateur musician . From 1980 he received piano lessons; In 1984 he started playing the drums ; In 1991 he founded his first band. The baritone began his vocal studies at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in 1997. In 2000 he received a scholarship for the pop course at the Hamburg University of Music . With the band Liquid Pop he released the lounge album Reset in 2003 . Mediated by his mentor Mark Murphy , there were appearances in New York in 2004 with Steve Kuhn , with whom he presented the album You Must Believe in Spring in 2005. He founded his own quartet, toured Russia several times with Daniel Kramer and performed at festivals. He released the album PWL ( Enja 2014) with Walter Lang .

He also worked with Till Brönner , Kim Sanders , Konstantin Wecker , Didier Lockwood , Nicola Conte ( Rituals ) and Thomas Zoller . He also composed theater music for the Bochum theater.

Prizes and awards

Weiss won the 2001 Jazz-Song Expo Award ; in the same year he was nominated for the rock / pop Oscar in Bonn. In 2004 he won the Young Generation Jazz Festival . In 2008 he was awarded the Bavarian Art Prize.
