Philippe Capdenat

Philippe Capdenat (born July 17, 1934 in Bordeaux ) is a French composer and music teacher .

During his school days in Bordeaux, Capdenat attended special courses in mathematics; he also took piano lessons and led the city's youth choir. From 1954 to 1958 he studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Mines in Saint-Étienne and took piano and composition lessons at the conservatory . After his military service in Algeria , he worked as an engineer in Paris from 1960 to 1967 .

At the same time he directed the Chorale Jéricho and the Orchester de Chambre Philippe Capdenat chamber orchestra and took composition lessons from Max Deutsch . In 1967 he toured Denmark as the conductor of the Odense Radio Orchestra . 1968–69 he worked with Maurice Béjart in Brussels on the ballet Je fus cet enfant-là , which was premiered in Paris. From 1981 to 1991 he was a lecturer at the Sorbonne ; he also taught at the Universities of Lyon and Tours .

In 1992 Capdenat became professor of music analysis and composition at the École Nationale de Musique et de Danse in Montreuil near Paris. From 1995 to 2001 he was director of the contemporary music department at the Conservatoire Nadia et Lili Boulanger in Paris, after which he was president of the Opus Open society for contemporary music until 2010 . In 1990 he received the SACEM composer's prize, and in 1996 the Académie des Beaux-Arts prize .
