Philippe Honoré (born November 25, 1941 in Vichy , † January 7, 2015 in Paris ) was a French cartoonist , caricaturist and journalist . He was murdered in the terrorist attack on the editorial staff of Charlie Hebdo magazine .

Life

Honoré taught himself to draw a self-taught at. He published his first drawing in a daily newspaper at the age of 16. His style was very dark, he often worked with woodcut- like drawings. In addition to publishing his own books, his illustrations have also appeared in various newspapers, including Liberation , Le Monde , Hara-Kiri , Les Inrockuptibles , La Vie ouvrière , Charlie Mensuel , Le Matin de Paris and Expressen .

Since 1992 Honoré has worked as a cartoonist for the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo . He was killed along with eleven other people in the terrorist attack on their editorial team on January 7, 2015. The last news item on the magazine's official Facebook and Twitter profiles shortly before the attack was a drawing by him showing Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi , the leader of the terrorist organization Islamic State . As a New Year's greeting it was headed with the words “Best wishes by the way”, al-Baghdadi says: “And above all health!”.

Honoré was buried in the Père Lachaise cemetery in Paris .
