Philippe Rochat
Philippe Rochat (born November 29, 1953 in Sentier ; † July 8, 2015 in Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne ) was a Swiss chef . Next to Horst Petermann, Rochat was the only non-French to be appointed Membre de la chambre syndicale de la Haute Cuisine Française .
Life
Rochat's mother died when he was nine years old and he grew up as a half-orphan. He began his training as a chef at the age of fourteen with Marcel Cavuscens in Romont . He also learned a. a. in the hotel catering of the Zurich Savoy Baur en Ville and at Paul Bocuse in Lyon.
In 1980 he started in the Frédy Girardets kitchen brigade in Crissier and became its head chef in 1989 . In 1995 Rochat married the long-distance runner Franziska Moser . Both took over the Girardet on December 1, 1996 and initially ran it under the name Rochat until it was renamed L'Hôtel de Ville in 1998 . The restaurant continued to be awarded three Michelin stars and held 19 Gault Millau points . In addition, from 2005 it was listed several times in The World's 50 Best Restaurants ranking .
Rochat's wife had a fatal accident in 2002. In 2007 he met his future partner, cross-country skier Laurence Rochat .
In April 2012 Rochat handed over his restaurant to his longtime sous-chef Benoît Violier , who had worked in the restaurant's kitchen since 1996, but remained a member of the company's board of directors. He also continued to work as a consultant for gastronomy and founded a culinary sales organization together with the chefs Lazare Saguer and Michel Hug.
Rochat was a passionate cyclist. On July 8, 2015, he suffered a faint attack during one of these trips and died at the scene of the accident. Rochat's funeral took place following a large funeral service in the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Lausanne on July 11, 2015.
