Only Miridius quadrivirgatus also has these characteristics. Phytocoris tiliae has a silver-gray to lime-green basic color. The bug species has a conspicuously grayish green pattern and has a characteristic black pattern on the hemielytras . The black color on the pronotum is on the sides and often also on the back. However, it is always clearly delimited. Both the males and the females are fully winged (macropter).

The species is distributed almost all over Europe and is only absent in the far north. It is also found in western North Africa. The distribution extends in the east to the Caucasus. It was introduced into North America by humans. It is widespread and common in Central Europe.

Way of life

The bugs live on deciduous trees, preferably on linden ( Tilia ), but also on oaks ( Quercus ), hazelnuts ( Corylus ), poplars ( Populus ), hawthorns ( Crataegus ), whitebeams ( Sorbus ), beeches ( Fagus ), apples ( Malus ) , Maples ( Acer ), ash trees ( Fraxinus ), willows ( Salix ) and many other species. Both the nymphs and the adult bugs sit on the trunk and also on thin branches and the leaves in the crown area of the plants. The nymphs appear from May, the adult bugs from late June to October, sometimes until mid-November. One generation is trained every year. The females stick their eggs into the young shoots of the host trees.
