The Piaggio Porter is a range of small vans from the Italian manufacturer Piaggio with either a petrol , diesel or electric motor .

The car is based on the Daihatsu Hijet . The Hijet was built by Piaggio between 1992 and 2002 for the Toyota subsidiary Daihatsu . Since then, Piaggio has been building the Porter on the basis of a license from Daihatsu. The engines are built in India. The models available are minibuses, panel vans, flatbed trucks, tippers and big decks (flatbed trucks with an enlarged loading area of 1400 × 2325 mm) and, for special bodies, chassis / cabin. The Maxxi variants are equipped with twin tires at the rear .

The Porter 4 × 4 version for terrain creates a 28% incline and a side slope of 45 degrees.

There is also the Porter EL, which is the entry-level version at a lower price.

Drive variants

Variant with gasoline engine

The Otto engine has a capacity of 1300 cm³ and originally delivered 44 kW. The vehicle thus reaches a top speed of 130 km / h. For the 2011 model year, the Porter received a new inline four-cylinder engine (Multi-Tech series) with four valves per cylinder and two overhead camshafts . It develops 52 kW (71  hp ). The engine was revised again for the 2016 model year and currently has an output of 61 kW (82 PS), with the top speed still being 130 km / h. In addition, the engine now complies with the Euro 6 standard.

Variant with diesel engine

With the diesel engine with 1400 cm³ and 28 kW maximum power, the maximum speed is 110 km / h. Apart from the new gasoline engine, Porter received for model year 2011, a newly developed two-cylinder diesel engine , type P120, with common rail - direct injection . It offers an output of 47 kW (63 hp).

Variant with electric drive

The models are offered with 9.2 and 10.5 kW electric motors. The payload is between 440 kg (station wagon) and 560 kg (pick-up), depending on the body weight. The maximum speed is between 48 and 57 km / h, depending on the engine. The Porter Elektro has a range between 75 and 137 km, depending on driving style and engine. The charging time of the traction battery on a 230 volt network is eight hours, with 400 V three-phase current and an external charger two hours.

Versions of the Elektro Porter have been offered since 1995.

All Porter variants have been equipped with ABS and power steering as standard since February 2011 . With the new engines, Piaggio introduced a more modern front design (in particular the radiator grille and headlights ), while the side view did not change.

In 2016, the ESC stability program was added as standard equipment.
