Pierre-Julien Nargeot
Pierre-Julien Nargeot (born July 7, 1799 in Paris ; † August 30, 1891 there ) was a French composer , conductor and violinist.
Life
From 1813 Nargeot studied violin with Rodolphe Kreutzer and composition with Jean-François Lesueur and Antonín Reicha at the Conservatoire de Paris . In 1828 he won the deuxième Second Grand Prix de Rome with the musical scene Herminie .
During his studies at the Conservatoire, Nargeot was a violinist in the orchestras of the Opéra-Comique and the Théâtre-Italien . From 1827 he was also a member of the Orchester du Gymnase musical founded by the painter and amateur flautist Jean-Louis Decourcelle , which performed works by young French composers under the direction of Théophile Tilmant . He was a member of the orchestra until its dissolution in 1832. He was also a member of the Société des Concerts du Conservatoire from 1828 to 1863 .
In 1839 he became conductor of the Théâtre des Variétés on Boulevard Montmartre. The house hosted balls, vaudevilles and Offenbach's operettas, as well as plays by Alexandre Dumas , Théophile Gautier , Alfred de Musset , George Sand and others. Nargeot wrote a large number of songs, arias, quadrilles and rondeaus, which were played between the pieces and some of them enjoyed great popularity.
In 1853 Nargeot left the Théâtre des Variétés and became a member of the Orchester de la Chapelle impériale , which was dissolved by Napoléon III during the July Revolution . had been re-established. The orchestra was directed by François Auber and the conductor by Narcisse Girard .
After several instrumental pieces in his youth and the music for plays and vaudevilles, Nargeot composed a large number of buffo operas and operettas.
