life and work
Pierre-Yves Rochon grew up in Brittany . He studied interior design at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs in Paris , where he was awarded top of the class. In 1969 he married Annick Rochon. The couple has a son. Pierre-Yves Rochon initially worked for ten years in the offices of other interior designers such as Michael Boyer . In 1979 he set up his own Paris office, the Société Pierre-Yves Rochon , and specialized in grand hotels.
Rochon's luxurious, detailed designs are based on an eclectic approach. It combines historical elements that take into account the local traditions of the respective hotel with contemporary accents. He pays particular attention to the creation of spacious and comfortable common rooms. Rochon shares his preference for historicizing designs based on opulent decors and furnishings from the 18th and 19th centuries with other French interior designers of his generation, including Jacques Garcia , François-Joseph Graf and Jacques Grange . He is influenced by the work of the interior and furniture designer Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann , who worked in the first decades of the 20th century. In addition to grand hotels, Rochon designed restaurants for well-known chefs such as Paul Bocuse , Alain Ducasse and Joël Robuchon .
