Pierre Jacques Joatton IdP (born July 20, 1930 in Lyon ; † November 22, 2013 ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Saint-Etienne .

Life

Pierre Joatton was one of six children from a family of professors in the Catholic Faculty of Lyon. He studied at the Prado Seminary in Lyon and at the Catholic University of Lyon and was ordained a priest on June 29, 1957 . On October 7, 1958, he was incardinated in the secular institute Istituto del Prado . He was a teacher at the Prado Seminary and later head of the novitiate and formation. In the Archdiocese of Lyon he had numerous duties, including leading the catechumenate. From 1971 to 1979 he worked in the pastoral care of the Archdiocese of Lyon, and from 1982 to 1988 as Vicar General .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Saint-Étienne on April 20, 1988 . The Archbishop of Lyon, Albert Cardinal Decourtray , donated to him on 26 June 1988 at the Palais des sports de Saint-Etienne , the episcopal ordination ; Co - consecrators were Paul-Marie Rousset Istituto del Prado, Bishop Emeritus of Saint-Étienne, and Didier-Léon Marchand , Bishop of Valence .

In the Bishops' Conference of France he was President of the Episcopal Commission for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and the Commission for the World of Work.

On June 28, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. his age-related retirement. As an emeritus he taught at the Prado seminar in Lyon.
