Pierre Jarawan (* 1985 in Amman , Jordan ) is a German writer and slam poet . He lives in Munich .

Life

Pierre Jarawan is an author, stage writer, presenter and freelance photographer. He was born in 1985 to a Lebanese father and a German mother in Amman, Jordan, after his parents left Lebanon because of the civil war . He came to Germany at the age of three and grew up in Kirchheim unter Teck near Stuttgart . He completed a BA in German and English before going to the Munich University of Television and Film in 2010 for a postgraduate course in film, theater and television criticism .

From 2009 on, Pierre Jarawan appeared in poetry slams , where he won various prizes. In 2012 he became an international German-speaking master in the poetry slam. He is one of the most successful stage poets in German-speaking countries. In 2013 he took part in the World Poetry Slam Championships in Paris.

First, Jarawan published his stage texts, then in 2016 the novel At the end of the cedar , which was funded by the City of Munich's literature grant in 2015 and for which he received the Bavarian Art Prize in 2016 . The novel was also nominated for the € 10,000 Ulla Hahn Author Award . His debut novel was awarded the AZ literary star of the year and presented as the best German-language debut at the Festival du Premier Roman in Chambéry. In his debut novel, Pierre Jarawan describes the boy Samir's search for his missing father in Lebanon. The book is now an international bestseller, translated into many languages. In the spring of 2020, his second novel, A Song for the Missing, was published . This work was funded with a working grant from the Free State of Bavaria.
