Pieter (Piet) van Egmond (born April 14, 1912 in Amsterdam ; † May 11, 1982 in Den Helder ) was a Dutch organist and conductor .

Life

Pieter van Egmond received his first piano and organ lessons from Wouter Westerhoud, the organist of the Oranjekerk in Amsterdam. On the advice of the district chairman de Vrijer, he attended the Toonkunst music school, where he received organ lessons from Anton H. Tierie. In 1927 Van Egmond gave his first organ concert with a Bach program in the Oude Kerk in Amsterdam. In the same year he was admitted to the Amsterdam Conservatory , where he studied with Cornelis de Wolf , among others . In 1931 he received his organ diploma, in 1933 he passed his solo exams for organ and in 1935, after further studies with Nelly Wagenaar, he received his diploma for piano.

In 1929 Van Egmond took up a position as organist at the Elthetokerk in Amsterdam-Oost . In 1931 he became organist and choir director of the Luther Chapel of the Restored Evangelical Lutheran Congregation. In 1937 he followed Jan Zwart as organist at the Restored Evangelical Lutheran Church on Kloveniersburgwal .

From 1931 to 1940 Piet van Egmond was also the organist of the Algemene Vereniging Radio Omroep , and from 1948 he worked with the Nederlandse Christelijke Radio-Vereniging .

After the Second World War , Van Egmond was organist at the Jeruzalemkerk (1952–1956) and at the Thomaskerk in Amsterdam (1956–1967) as well as at the Reformed Wilhelminakerk in Haarlem and from 1971 to 1977 at the Grote Kerk in Apeldoorn .
