Barry Pinches (born July 13, 1970 in Norwich ) is a British snooker player .

Career

In 1988 Barry Pinches won the English Amateur Championship and finished second at the IBSF World Championship . The following season he became a professional and reached in the 2005/06 season 18th place as the best place in the world snooker rankings . In 2007 he won the Paul Hunter Classic , which was first run under this name, but was not part of the Snooker Main Tour at the time.

At the 2010/11 newly introduced Players Tour Championship he reached the final in the second event, and won the fourth event against Ronnie O'Sullivan . It was his only victory in a (minor) world ranking tournament. The best results of his career include the quarter-finals at the 2003 UK Championship and the 2005 Grand Prix . Pinches is also one of those players who scored an official maximum break in a professional tournament: the Welsh Open in 2000.

From 1989 to 2016 the Englishman was a member of the Snooker Main Tour with a one-year break in the 1997/98 season. In 2014 he fell back to 76th place in the world rankings and was unable to extend his membership in the professional tour. His placement in the overall ranking ("Order of Merit") in the 2013/14 Players Tour Championship gave him another two-year entry permit. However, he did not get past 88th place in the world rankings and had to leave the tour in 2016.

His trademark is the checkered vest in the colors of Norwich City FC (yellow and green).
