Piotr Małoszewski
Piotr Małoszewski (born July 2, 1950 in Krakow , † March 21, 2017 in Munich ) was a Polish geoscientist.
Life
Piotr Małoszewski studied technical physics at the AGH Scientific and Technical University in Krakow; In 1978 he received his doctorate at the Institute for Geology at the AGH.
In 1993 he completed his habilitation at the University of Freiburg . He worked at the Institute for Nuclear Physics in Krakow and was a fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation outside Poland. In 1999 he was appointed professor at the University of Freiburg. In 2000 he was appointed university professor at the Faculty of Geology, Geophysics and Environmental Protection of the AGH Krakow.
In 2004 Piotr Małoszewski became deputy director of the Institute for Groundwater Ecology at the Helmholtz Center in Munich . He also taught at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan and at the universities in Karlsruhe, Bochum, Munich and Bern. He taught for UNESCO and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Austria, Egypt, Ghana and Ethiopia.
The scientific focus of his work was hydrology, hydrogeology and geology. He has published numerous papers and served on the editorial boards of the Journal of Hydrology, Hydrological Science Journal, and Archives of Hydroengineering and Environmental Mechanics.
Piotr Małoszewski was committed to the Polish Catholic Mission in Munich and was co-founder and vice-president of the Christian Center for the Promotion of the Polish Language, Culture and Tradition in Germany. He was chairman of the Supreme Council of Polish Catholic Laity in Germany. He was a member of the Central Committee of German Catholics.
Piotr Małoszewski had been a member of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem since 2006 . On March 9, 2017, he was appointed governor of the Order of Knights in Poland by Edwin Frederick Cardinal O'Brien , the Cardinal Grand Master of the Papal Order of Knights. He was buried on March 31, 2017 in Krakow after a requiem given by Kazimierz Cardinal Nycz , Archbishop of Warsaw and Grand Prior of the Order in Poland, and Wiesław Lechowicz , Auxiliary Bishop and Archbishop-Administrator in Katowice. In the Requiem an obituary was read out by the Polish President Andrzej Duda .
