Pixelmator is an image editor for macOS and iOS Company Pixelmator Team Ltd. . The software is partly based on open source and Mac OS X technologies and offers selection, retouching, navigation and color correction tools. As with Photoshop, the image processing is layer-based . When processing images, Pixelmator uses the graphics processor in addition to the main processor to increase performance . The software relies on Core Image and OpenGL . Appropriate tools are also available for automation and color management . The software is developed by the Lithuanian brothers Saulius and Aidas Dailide.

history

Pixelmator 1.0 was released on September 25, 2007. Shortly before, on August 16, 2007, the first beta version was released. This was initially announced as a public beta version, but was then only made available to a small group of testers.

On May 12, 2008, version 1.2 of Pixelmator was released with the code name "Draftsman". This version brought new tools for circles, polygons, the lasso tool, rulers, instructions and a grid for better alignment.

Version 1.3 of Pixelmator was released on November 11, 2008 and was codenamed "tempo". The version meant more stability and brought improvements in the processing of large files. It also introduced new features such as "click-and-drag" to adjust the tolerance of the magic wand, a paint pot and the magic eraser tool. The hue and saturation, color replacement and coloring palettes have also been renewed. Improvements to the drawing tools with instant preview and to the languages ​​English and German were added language versions in French and Spanish.

Pixelmator 1.4 was released on April 20, 2009 under the code name "sprinkle". The version included a new painting engine and more options for using the brush tools. The support for importing Photoshop brushes has also been added. Up to version 1.4.1 a new cloud generator filter and a noise filter were added.

Version 1.5 with the code name "Spider" was released on September 8th, 2009 and for the first time allowed storage for the web, direct export to Mail and iPhoto and the possibility of trimming and distributing labels.

The current version 1.6 with the code name "Nucleus" was released on July 13, 2010 and, in addition to an increase in performance, also offers direct sending to social networks and the direct import of cameras, cell phones and scanners. The current version also supports 64-bit .

Pixelmator was distributed in Germany by Application Systems Heidelberg . On January 6, 2011, Pixelmator announced that it would in future only sell the software via Apple's Mac App Store . Up to version 2.0 there were also updates for Pixelmator versions purchased elsewhere.

Version 2.1.3 was released in the Mac App Store on November 8, 2012 .

From version 2 new drawing tools, shapes and content-dependent filling functions have been integrated. The appearance of the surface has been adapted to OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion) , and the software is from version 2.1. optimized for the retina display .
