Mavericks , fully OS X Mavericks 10.9 , is the tenth major version of macOS , Apple's desktop operating system . It followed on OS X Mountain Lion , was released on October 22, 2013 and offered for free. It was previously presented on June 10, 2013 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) and a first developer preview was published. With the nickname "Mavericks" Apple gives up the long-standing naming after big cats. Apple now uses California's natural landmarks , such as Mavericks , a surfing spot . Apple is based in Cupertino , California .

On October 16, 2014, the successor OS X Yosemite was released.

criticism

With the introduction of Mavericks, Apple only planned to synchronize appointments and addresses between the iPhone or iPad and the computer via the iCloud, whereas previously this was also possible via USB. The synchronization of appointments and addresses therefore requires a WLAN connection. As of version 10.9.3, synchronization via USB was reintroduced under iTunes 11.2.
